Life settlement is the process of selling an unneeded or unwanted life insurance policy for fair market value in the secondary market. Traditionally, policyholders could choose to continue paying premiums on unwanted life insurance, allow the policy to lapse and lose everything invested, or surrender the policy for a fraction of its value.
